Week Beginning Monday 30th March

Good morning Year 5,

We hope you are all well and are keeping safe at home. Even though you cannot go out to the park or friend’s houses, we hope you have been able to enjoy the fresh air in your gardens. Perhaps some of you have been joining in with the ‘Gardening@Home’ club?

Please use the timetable below for your learning this week. You can access these tasks on the ‘Home Learning’ page under the ‘Year Five’ button. Remember, there is no expectation to complete all of the tasks we have set – but there is plenty there to keep you busy!

Maths

Arithmetic questions using addition and subtraction

Remember to use the compact method for addition and subtraction. Show all workings. Mark your answers as you are working through each calculation (the honesty sheets are provided).

English

Improving sentences using fronted adverbials and relative clauses, using ‘Journey’ to help you.

Fronted adverbials are a phrase used at the beginning of a sentence to tell the reader, where, when or how an action occurred.

Relative clauses use relative pronouns to give more information to a sentence. Relative pronouns include which, that, when, where and who.

Geography

Naming rivers and investigating their size.

The rivers can be from all over the world, not just the UK. Use the internet to find the length of the river (in kilometres) as this will help you order your rivers in size.

In addition to the above, here are a few suggestions for some other things you might like to do this week.

We’re going on a Bear Hunt!

Kim’s game

Art from Mrs Milne

Put a teddy in your window

When you go out for your daily exercise, how many bears can you spot in windows?

There are lots of residents in Bishop’s Waltham taking part in this so you should be able to spot lots of bears!

Gather a selection of about 20 items from around the house and/or garden on a tray.

You have 30 seconds to memorise as many items as you can. Cover them with a cloth and then name as many items as possible. Who can remember the most?

Year 3 have been challenged to create an Iron Man model out of junk.  Mrs Milne thought it would be fun to extend this challenge to the whole school, and would love to see your junk model creations, be that robots, animals, or anything else that gets your creative juices going.  Keep a look out for Mrs Milne’s weekly art challenges which will be published every Monday morning on the school blog while we are all staying at home.  More tips and techniques for your junk modelling will be uploaded there tomorrow morning.

Please send Miss Pearmain and Mrs Arnold pictures of your work – we will upload a class blog every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so it would be lovely to include some photographs of your home learning to share with our school community!

If you have any questions, please email us using your bwjsapps account.

Take care and stay safe,

Miss Pearmain and Mrs Arnold x
