Year 3 Update

18 July 2022 (by Darren Campbell (darrencampbell))

We’ve enjoyed a lovely,  busy fortnight of learning in Year 3.  Highlights have included:

DT Food Technology Project
Our final DT project this academic year has been researching, designing and making a healthy snack suitable for use before, during or after sport.  The children re-visited some previous learning about a healthy diet, food groups and what benefits each food group offers.  They tried a range of healthy snacks from the supermarket and evaluated them in terms of their taste, texture and whether they fitted the design brief. After also researching and considering where our food comes from and the environmental impact of this, they then went on to decide flavours to add to a basic flapjack recipe.  We were really impressed with the children’s team work and measuring skills during our making session yesterday, and today everyone loved tasting their creations and evaluating both the cooking process and their individual flapjack ‘bars’.

Today, we had our final field sports lesson, in the form of a full game of rounders.  We were proud to see how the children’s bowling, batting and fielding skills have improved during this half term.  We have challenged them to continue practising these skills with their families and friends over the summer break and have been advised that a number of different ‘bats’ can be used as an alternative to a rounders bat: for example cricket bats and plastic tennis rackets are great for this.

Year 2 Production
We had the pleasure of going to the infant school this morning to watch Year 2’s end-of-year production.  It was wonderful watching the faces of the Year 3s as they recollected their own performance of the same production.  Before the Year 2 children came on stage, they even burst into song.

End of an Era
This is our final blog of the academic year and we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all of your support this year.  We wish the children all the very best as they transition to Year 4. Meanwhile, we hope you all have a wonderful summer.

Best wishes
From all of the Year 3 Team
