School History - 1999

January 27th
"The ICT room is being well used…” (newsletter)

March 15th
“It is with very mixed feelings that I inform you that Mrs Clift will be leaving at the end of this term. In fact she is on a three year secondment to Hampshire Education Authority, assisting the County in introducing and developing the new ideas on teaching Numeracy… For nearly eleven years Mrs Clift has been a superb class teacher, and very many children will have benefited from her able and sensitive teaching.
“We have been very fortunate in obtaining the services of Mrs Carter to take Class 10 next term.” (newsletter).

April 22nd
“The school’s swimming pool will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its opening by David Wilkie on Saturday afternoon. Between 2:00pm and 7:15pm there will be a programme of activities for you or your family to take part in, all absolutely free.” (newsletter).

June 18th
“Often at the end of the summer term, we sadly say ‘Goodbye’ to members of staff, and this year is no exception. After 12 years working at Ridgemede, Mrs Boston will be resigning in July. Many children have benefited enormously from her gentle and focused teaching.
“Mrs Brown will also be leaving to emigrate to Australia. In just two years, she has taken Ridgemede by storm.
“They both leave with our best wishes for whatever the future may hold for them.
“To replace them, Miss Lynne Brierly has been appointed to join our Lower School team, while Miss Emily Johnson will be taking a Year 5 class.” (newsletter).

July 16th
“The role of Deputy Head has become very complex and demanding over the past few years, and to enable Mrs Marsh to develop this role more fully, next year she will have a reduced teaching duty. Therefore she will be sharing a Year 5 class with Mrs Carter.” (newsletter).

October 21st
“The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire had a vision of every child of school age in the county planting a daffodil bulb for the millennium. Sadly, not every school was able to take up the offer, but we were happy to do so, which means we have approximately 1,500 now to plant.
“Working closely with the Bishop’s Waltham society, the Infant School and ourselves will be planting up the Willow Road entrance to the Ridgemede Estate.” (newsletter).

December 3rd
“There is a very strange feeling about the school at the moment. There isn’t the usual bustle and excitement of Christmas. Instead of fitting-out angels, hunting for the crib or constantly singing the ‘Christmas Carol of the year’, thoughts are of getting a costume for King Henry VIII, making a cardboard Leaning Tower of Pisa and learning the words to the song ‘The Tale of Thomas a Becket’. No doubt we shall be putting ‘Around the World in 1000 Years’ to one side for an hour or two during our Christmas Fayre on Saturday afternoon, and then it will be back to the Millennium production rehearsals on Monday.” (newsletter).
